ITINERARY

Duration: 3 days

Day 1: Trip to Cochapata (Coffee Region): Coffee activity + Cock of the Rock Observation.

We leave by road to Quillabamba. We pass a pass of more than 4,000 meters high, from where we can see the mountain Veronica of 5,700 meters high. Then we descend into the heart of the cloud forest (also known as the “lower Amazon”) until we reach the village of Huyro. We continue along a trail to Cochapata Lodge. Upon arrival, visit to the coffee cultivation fields. For this process, we will first have an explanation of the different types of coffee and production times, then our hosts will give us the traditional clothes of coffee workers so we can go directly to the fields and experience the coffee harvest first hand. They will then explain the rest of the process until we have a delicious cup of coffee to enjoy. Afterwards, we will continue our visit to a hidden place where we will observe the cock of the rock, here we will be able to observe this colorful red and black bird in its natural habitat. This bird is the national symbol of Peru. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Huayopata – Hydroelectric and connection with a train to Aguas Calientes.

In the morning, we will take a short hike along an original Inca trail in the middle of the jungle. The hike also allows us to learn about the history of the haciendas that were established in the area to exploit tropical products such as coffee, cocoa and especially tea. Then we take a private vehicle that will take us to the place called Colcamayo, where there are thermal baths conditioned in pools that show the crystal clear water flowing from the mountain. Then we head to Hidroeléctrica, where we have the option to take a train or walk for three hours to the town of Aguas Calientes.

Day 3: Machu Picchu – Cusco

This day we will drive you to Machu Picchu, located between the Peruvian Andes and the Amazon. You will discover the “Lost City of the Incas”, an exceptional architectural achievement that will dazzle you with its mystical atmosphere. Chosen as a “Wonder of the Modern World” in 2007, the citadel has remained intact since it was not invaded by the conquistadors, unlike other Inca constructions. Your guide will share with you his knowledge about the origins of this place and the functions it performed. You will be able to walk around the citadel to discover the religious buildings, the ancient dwellings and the ancestral cultivation terraces.

Return to Cusco in the late afternoon.
